JAMES EDWARD HAMPTON, the son of the late Melton Sr., and Alease Hampton, was born October 15, 1937 in Baltimore City where he grew up in the 1700 block of Llewelyn Ave.

James received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He was employed as a maintenance Technician in various apartment complexes.

He married the late Helen Hampton and of this union, two children were born Irma and Diane. He also had two sons, James Jr. and the late Douglass and four stepchildren, Wanda, Eric, Michael and Dale.

James and Helen were affectionately known as "Ringo & Chubby". Ringo loved to cook and always was willing to feed anyone who needed a hot meal. He was well liked by all he encountered. Ringo was famous for his fried chicken and it drew in people from all over. In his earlier years, he enjoyed going crabbing and steaming crabs from his great catches. James was very funny and liked to tell jokes. He loved to listen to "oldies but goodies" music. He enjoyed football and baseball. He especially loved our Home teams the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. James was a father figure to many. He was easy to talk to and always ready and willing to listen.

James was a loving and devoted father. He was know to his children and grandchildren as "Dadda." He leaves behind to cherish fond memories, five children, James, Irma, Diane, Derrick and one son preceded him in death, Douglass; four stepchildren, Wanda, Eric, Michael and Dale. One son-in-law Tony Randall Sr.; 14 grandchildren, Toya, Derrick aka Jumping jack, Douglass, Shawn, Shanterrelle, Shyra, Deon, Tiara, Dale, Tavon, Erica, Erica, Hykeem and Nahja; a host of great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melton Jr. and Michael; three brothers, preceded him in death, Walter, Clarence and Jerome; one sister-in-law, Cora; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close friends. He also leaves behind his long time devoted friend Barbara. During his illness he accepted Christ as his Savior. He departed on December 1, 2020.
