JACQUELINE THERESA AUSTIN THOMAS, was born on December 7, 1953 and departed this life suddenly in the early morning hours of December 19, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband David Thomas; her parents, Samuel J, Austin and Evelyn M. Mason and her brothers Ivan and Larry.
Jackie gave her life to Christ at a very young age and was an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, under the leadership of the late Father Charles Washington Fox, III.
Jackie, as she was affectionally known, received her education in the Baltimore City School System and graduated from Northwestern High School, College Prep Program.
After graduation, Jackie worked for Baltimore City in several different administrative positions. First at the Waxter Center for Senior's, then she was assigned to the Baltimore City Jail and finally she was assigned to Baltimore City Public School System; where she worked at several different schools as the Registrar and Executive Assistant including Robert Poole and Samuel Banks Middle Schools, Northern High School and Coppin Academy until her retirement in 2016.
She has one son, Douglas B. Austin whom she loved and cherished. Two grandchildren, Shamia and Dyjae' that brought her great joy. Also from her union with David Thomas she gained a daughter, Donta', however she mothered and loved her nieces and nephews like they were her children. She was a "cat lady"! After her husband passed a black cat showed up at her door and she kept it and ultimately she ended with three cats that she was so fond of; in fact, a photo of the cats was the screen saver on her phone.
Her nieces and nephews began calling her "Aunt Jaki" because her attire was flamboyant. When asked what was her favorite color her response was "all of them" and she really meant it. She was always color coordinated from head to toe. She loved late night shopping on the home shopping network and her extravagant wardrobe displayed that very fact.
Jackie loved to travel, Las Vegas, Nevada was her favorite destination and Atlantic City was a close second. Along with her husband, she was a Vegas platinum card holder, which included two weeks complimentary hotel stay and meals.
She loved fast cars and didn't mind putting the pedal to the medal. Her favorite parting sayings were "Party, party beep, beep" and "Peace Out Boo Boo".
Jackie left a memorable impression on everyone she encountered. Her wit and humor will be missed by everyone who knew her. Almost everyone refereed to her as Aunt Jackie or Auntie. Jackie was a fun loving person that simply enjoyed life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Douglas (Dawn), daughter Donta', grandchildren Shamia and Dyjae, sisters Deborah Ayres and Phyllis Greene (Sylvester); sister-in-law Marie Mason; a special niece Karen Mills her "ride or die" companion and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
