Idonia B. Broidy

IDONIA BERTHINE BROIDY was born on April 8, 1942 to the late Neomia Virginia Mason and John Henry Murphy was raised in Baltimore, Maryland.

She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

She peacefully transitioned on May 17, 2025 to be with her Heavenly Father.

Idonia lived a life rooted in strength, family and faith.

She worked for thirty years at the Oles Envelope Company and ten years at the Black and Decker Company to provide for her family. She loved to go fishing, crabbing, eating crabs and listening to Oldies but Goodie music. Affectionately known as Donie she loved family gatherings and talking to her first cousins because they were like sisters.

Idonia was preceded in death by her cherished sister, Celeste Mumford and brother-in-law Essex Mumford whose memories she held close throughout her life. Idonia exemplified grace, resilience and compassion that shaped her commitment to her family and community.

A devoted mother she leaves behind a proud and loving family. She is survived by her children; Cynthia Murphy, Sharon Swanson (Anthony A. Swanson), Eric Brooks (Joyce), Shiza-El), and Marcel Broidy.

She was also the proud grandmother of Binica, Ebony, April, Oscar, Tareece and Roddrick. Her legacy continues through her great grandchildren; Natasha, Marcel Jr., Maurice, Da'Quan, Ra'Shaun, Micah, Markell, Jizella, D'ior, Jayla, Elaine, Z'Jore, Mateo and Aaron.

Idonia also leaves behind her loving niece, Roslyn Brogdon, nephew, Morgan Mumford, great nephews, Vaughn and Christopher Brogdon whom she cherished dearly. Along with a host of cousins and friends.

Throughout her life, Idonia exemplified grace, resilience and compassion. She nurtured her family with unwavering love and her presence was a source of comfort and wisdom to all who knew her. Her strength of spirit, infectious smile, and generous heart will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
