Ida was born on April 3, 1945 to the late Robert James Brown Sr. and Willie Mae Brown in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the eldest of six children born to the union of her parents. Ida departed this life on July 17, 2022 following a lengthly illness at Overlea Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. On June 12, 1964 Ida graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. Upon graduation she obatined employment with Western Electric which was located on Broening Highway. In June 1984 the Baltimore division of Western Electric moved to Richmond, Virginia which necessitated Ida and her family relocating to Virginia. Ida retired from her employment with Western Electric in 2011.
In 1966 Ida was united in holy matrimony to Thurman L. Hanson, Sr. This union was blessed with two sons Thurman L. Jr. (deceased) and Dermont Hanson.
Ida received Christ at an early age (teen yrs.) and was baptized at The Israel Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Edward D. Meade. After several years, Pastor H.W. Wilson was appointed and it was under his leadership that Ida continued to serve in several ministries.
During the 30 plus years that Ida resided in Virginia she was an active member of Fair Oaks Baptist Church. She joined Fair Oaks Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Jonathan Robinson. Upon the passing of Reverend Robinson, Pastor Fermen Taylor was appointed the shepard of the church. Ida served faithfully for many years at Fair Oaks Baptist. Due to illness, she had to return to Baltimore in 2019 where her family could provide direct care for her. Upon returning to Baltimore she attended both Israel Baptist Church and Bibleway Missionary Baptist Church before deciding to place her membership with Bibleway, under the leadership of Reverend Eugene B. Holmes, Jr.
God blessed Ida with many gifts and talents. She loved to crochet and created a crocheting ministry at her former church in Richmond. Ida would crochet hats, scarfs, and blankets for cancer patients at the local hospital in Richmond. She also blessed family, friends and acquaintances with her crocheting. She was an excellent cook and was known for preparing meals for family and friends. She would use her fine china to set the table for entertaining. Family members note that when Ida prepared her table for dining it was "fit for a king/Queen." Ida fed everyone that came to her home which was reflective of her gift of hospitality. God gifted her with a beautiful voice and she loved singing for the Lord. When she sang, she did it in reverence to the Lord. She had a deep faith in the Lord and a hunger for the word of God. She always enjoyed fervent prayer.
Ida is survived by her son Dermont, 3 sisters, Gwendora Spady, devoted caregiver, Joyce Spencer (Isaiah), Sandra Hall ( Ronnie) and 1 brother William H. Brown (Dianna). She was preceded in death by her eldest son Thurman L. Hanson, Jr. and brother Robert J. Brown, Jr.(Peggy) Her Godparents William and Hilda Brown.
