Listen to Obituary

HELEN OMEGA POMPEY, the only child of the late Bessie Taylor came into this world on November 11, 1934. It pleased the lord to call His servant home to glory on July 30, 2014.

Helen was wed to the late William Billie Pompey and from that union came three children: the late, Wanda Pompey, the late Terry Saulsbury and Karen Pompey. She and the late Walter Ringgold later had a daughter, Natonja Ringgold.

Helen attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. She was employed at the Veterans Warehouse beginning in 1964 and retired after 25 years of service. There she met her best friend, Francine Butler.

Indeed many can attest to the fact that Helen loved the Lord. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1984 under the ministry of Bishop Showell at first Apostolic Faith Church. She later became a member of Living Word Ministries and was the first member to give the church her blessing of $1,000.00. At Living Word she adopted several daughters in Christ. She always talked about her church family and loved them very much.

Helen was a woman who loved to pray. She would pray for you before you had a chance to think, as Bishop Darneal Johnson fondly remembered. Many of the members of her community would knock on her door and ask that she pray for them and she never disappointed. You could find her at the Northeast Market fellowshipping with her friends and praying for anyone that she knew and some that she didn't know. She was affectionately called 'Grandma' by many of the young people in the community. You couldn't help but love her. She was the best.

Even as Helen has departed this life, we know that she is watching over us from Heaven. She had the calmest spirit about her and was always smiling and happy. She will surely be missed.

With fond memories, Helen leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Karen Pompey and Natonja Ringgold of Baltimore, Maryland; granddaughters, Karen Gilliam of Orlando, Florida; Tara Saulsbury of Raleigh , North Carolina, Kionna Young, Alicia Jeter, Dasia Leach, Kayla Leach of Baltimore, Maryland; grandsons, Darrell Goines, Paul Saulsbury, Terrance Washington, Treyvon Saulsbury, Malik Williams of Baltimore, Maryland and Devin Saulsbury of Raleigh, North Carolina; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; cousins., Thomasine Harris, Maria Taylor, Francell Taylor, Robert Taylor and William Cook; her best friend, Francine Butler; daughter in Christ Shelly Gregory; and a host of relatives, friends, sisters and brothers in Christ.
