Helen Hopkins, daughter of the late Ruth Sprout and Louis

Jacobs of Chester, South Carolina was born on Nov. 9, 1936.

After a brief illness, Helen’s earthly life came to a peaceful

transition and departed this life on Oct. 8, 2017.

At an early age of 13, Helen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal

savior at the Sandy River Baptist Church of Chester, South

Carolina. Upon moving to Baltimore Helen joined and served

God at the New Antioch Baptist Church and in 1995 Helen

joined Faith Baptist Church.

Her education started at Providence elementary school and

was completed at the Finley High School in the year 1956. After

moving to Baltimore MD, Helen worked many skilled jobs as a

jeweler and seamstress and after her years of working as a

professional, she worked at KFC part-time where she was

known to keep everyone in check.

Helen met and later married Tot Edward Hopkins on Dec. 9,

1956 and from this union they were blessed with four loving

children.

Helen loved the Lord, she loved and cared for her family and

friends. Grandma, Nana, Honey and Ms. Helen and the hat

lady were some of the names she was referred to by many of

the young people in her care and those she met along the

way. Whenever someone would meet Helen, instantly they

would know her genuine affections. She was also known for her

many signature hats. Helen was defiantly a one of a kind lady.

Words that she lived by “be who you are, not who you ain’t,

when you’re not who you are, then you‘re not who you ain’t.”

Helen is survived by her daughters and their husbands Phyllis

and Wayne Addison, Rosylan and Nathan Hunt III, Ruth and

Thomas Ferguson and her son Bruce Hopkins, their father Tot

Edward Hopkins, her God-son Greg Smith. Ten grandchildren
