HAZEL LEE WOODS was born on October 16, 1927, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Gus and Millie Williams. She peacefully departed this life on June 17, 2026, following her facing an extended period of health challenges.

At an early age, Hazel's parents relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where she was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School in 1945 and continued her education at Cortez Peters Business School, earning her diploma on June 13, 1946.

Hazel was united in marriage to George Woods, and from this union, three beautiful children were born. She was a loving and devoted mother who took great pride in her family and cherished the relationships she built throughout her life.

Professionally, Hazel worked for several employers throughout the Baltimore area, but her most notable and rewarding career choice was with the Social Security Administration, where she dedicated thirty years of faithful service. Through hard work, determination, and leadership, she rose through the ranks from Clerk to Section Chief. Hazel was respected by her colleagues as a capable leader, mentor and trailblazer whose work ethic and commitment left a lasting impact upon those who worked with her and beside her. Hazel was deeply committed to community service; was a founding member of the Government Girls on the Go, an organization known for their community outreach, dedication and fundraising efforts towards the less fortunate. Hazel met and shared a special and enduring bond with the love of her life, Calvin Nock, affectionately known to her as "Neal". together they spent countess hours enjoying jazz events at the Art Social Club, where Neal was a founding member, as well as attending concerts, faith-based, social an family events.

Those who knew and loved her, affectionately referred to her as "Mama Hazel" and will forever remember her wisdom, strength and unwavering spirit. Three of her favorite quotes were; Everyday is a new day" .  " Self-preservation is the first law of nature", and "Without a doubt". She used these quotes to bring hope, value and purpose not only to others, but also to herself.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Millie Williams, the love of her life, Calvin Nock; and her beloved son and daughter Tyrone Woods and Terry Woods-Barnhardt.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Viola Woods; three grandchildren, Tanya Barnhardt, Dynisha Woods-Gray, and Tyrese Kearney-Marshall; six great-grandchildren, Nakita Davis, Nichalas Davis Sr., De'Asia Marshall, Tatyana Marshall, Devon Tapp and Jordan Woods; and five great-great- grandchildren, Nichalas Davis, Jr., Na'Khari Jones, Ashley Meyers, Amir Meyers and Taray Meyers, Jr. She also leaves a host and an array of extended family members, friends and loved ones whose lives were affected or touched by her.
