GREGORY RONALD MUNGO, JR., son of Gregory Ronald Mungo, Sr. and the late Donna Shewanna Strugiss was born on July 10, 1983 in Baltimore, Maryland. Gregory suddenly and unexpectedly departed his earthly journey on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.
Lil' Greg as he was affectionately called by his family was blessed with loving and devoted parents and many family members who loved him to pieces. At an early age Greg began to live with his Uncle Paul Jones who preceded him In death, his aunt Barbara Jones and his Godmother Kim Jones,. They raised him as their own grandchild and child.
At an early age Greg attended Israel Baptist Church with his family. Greg was 12 years old when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He was baptized at Israel Baptist Church by Pastor Harlie Walden Wilson II. Greg enjoyed going to worship and participating in various church activities. He attended Sunday Church School, vacation Bible School, Youth Retreats, Lock-ins and Conference. Greg served with the Youth Ministry and the Youth Choir.
Greg, received his education in the Baltimore Public School System. He completed his educational journey at lake Clifton Eastern High School. As a youth he enjoyed playing football and basketball. He played football for the Northwood Rams and basketball for the Madison Square Buccaneers. Greg and his Buccaneer teammates traveled to Philadelphia where they won a Championship.
Greg along with his friends organized the Oliver Community 250 (OC 250) Youth Mentoring Program. While some OC 250 members organized activities for the children, Greg would be found on the basketball court teaching young boys and girls the fundamentals of the game. OC 250 took many of the neighborhood children on field trips, organized neighborhood basketball tournaments, picnics, after school homework assistance and other fun activities for the children to enjoy. Greg and his friends were/are concerned about the future of the neighborhood and the young children who reside there.
Greg gained various employment opportunities often working two or three jobs at once. He was blessed to gain employment with Express Bakery, The Bouncy Place and Baltimore City Department of Public Works. At the time of his transition Greg was working at Schmidt Bakery Company, where he was loved by his co-workers. Greg was focused, hard working and determined to accomplish whatever he set his mind to. As Greg became blessed he began to bless others by sharing his resources and information to help them gain employment. He was always willing to put in a good word with his employer for anyone else who was serious about working. He set his goals and he never stopped moving forward with them.
Greg had many personality attributes, but he was best known for his infectious smile, his jolly attitude, his bouncy walk and his love for others. Greg was a fun loving person, full of life and always had a laugh to give and a joke to tell. Greg was a leader, a straight up guy full of self-confidence. To know Greg was to love Greg and as he would always say, 'I am a lovable Guy'.
Greg leaves to cherish fond memories; his daughter, Gamya Mungo, father, Gregory Ronald Mungo, Sr., devoted aunt/grandmother Barbara Jones; grandmother, Diane Mungo; grandfather, Larry Sturgiss; devoted godmother, Kim Jones; one brother, Zed Mungo; three sisters, Danielle, Jewel Mungo and Alexis Holland one step-brother, Sterling Thomas; one step sister, Kierra Thomas, three nephews, Michael and Malachi Johnson, and Royall Pool; two nieces, Summer Hammond and Bailey Pugh; five uncles, Gerard Mungo, Garland Mungo, Walter Melton, Paul Jones and Gregory Mackenney; four aunts, Gloria Sturgiss, Teresa Jones, LaTarsa (Jones) MacKenney and Gabrielle Jones; two special cousins, Jarrod Jones and Capria Smith with whom he shared a brother/sister relationship, five god-sisters, Kisha Hamlett, Adrienne Brooks, Vickeara Green, Tanisha Powell and Tanae McFadden; a devoted girlfriend, Dontanette Burrell; three close friends, Keyon Johnson, Zenobiha Stanton, Gary Crum and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
