Gilbert Stevenson, affectionately known as "Gil" was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late
John Stevenson and Pearl Wilmore Stevenson Williams. He departed this life peacefully sleeping on August 16, 2015 after a brief illness.

He received his education at Carver Vocational-Technical High School in Baltimore and graduated at the age of 16. After a brief stint in the work world, he joined the U.S. Navy and served two terms. After being honorably discharged, he held various jobs including Bar Manager, Truck Driver, and Home Improvement.

He married the former Mary Ann Miller on May 5, 1979. She preceded him in death.

Gil was an avid fisherman. He was named 2009
Fisherman of the Year after catching over 10,000 fish. When he caught fish, he would give them away to family and friends and would not accept money. He was firm in his beliefs and would let you know how he felt. He also enjoyed putting puzzles together and watching sports, especially his grandson Sam Cassell. He kept newspaper clippings from high school to his NBA career.

He leaves to cherish his memory; four children, Kim, Darrin, Subrina, and Carla (preceded him in death); one sister, Thelma Russell; siblings George and Donald preceded him in death; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He had a special bond with his great granddaughter Shy'Lin (his Moo) who could make him smile at any time.
