Listen to Obituary

Gertrude Brown was born to the late James and Victoria Brown on January 9, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland. On June 24, 2023, Gertrude Brown went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.

Gertrude received her formal education from Baltimore City Public Schools. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior early in her life. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Pleasant Zion Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Affectionately called “Aunt Gert” to many was independent, tenacious and an entrepreneur. She loved family gatherings, dancing, cooking and was famous for eating those sweet foods. Gertrude was a stylish dresser. Her apparel had to match. Aunt Gert was the rock and giver to everyone she met. She had the spirit of kindness and the love for people. Especially her family and friends. She would give you her last penny if you needed it.

The love of her life was Jay Buckson who preceded her in death. But most of all Gertrude loved the Lord with all her heart. Her last minutes on this earth were spent praying to God.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her five sisters: Shirley McClurkin, Pansey Manley, Daisy Douglass, Helen Brown, and Fannie Brown; one brother James Brown, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Her loving devoted daughters, Yolanda Lee- Henson, and Sharon Buckson; one son, Antoine Buckson; four sisters: Mary Brown, Rebecca Brown, Vera and Marcella; three grandsons: Kenneth Borns Jr., Antoine K. Buckson and Antoine G Buckson; four great grandchildren: Kenneth Ill, Cha-nice, Kourtnie, Kandice, and Shameka; three great great grandchildren: Kamari, Denver, and Brandon, one great daughter-in-law Tammy, and one son-in-law Eric Henson; one sister-in-law, thirteen nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, one great nephew who preceded her in death, eight great nephews, three great-great nephews, eight great-great nieces; her best lifelong friend, Ann L. Travers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
