Listen to Obituary

On August 26, 1940, The Cammon Family was blessed with the birth of George. He was the third child born to Nelson and Martha. George achieved his education in the Public Schools of Baltimore City, receiving his diploma from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

George was baptized into the family of God in 1952 by the late Reverend Dr. Edmond D. Meade, Sr,. Pastor of the Israel Baptist Church of Baltimore City. He attended Worship there and was involved in Youth Programs until he reached his early years of adulthood. George strayed away; but, "only for a little while."

George was married at an early age to Ellen Jeffers. From this Union, three children were born: the late George "Eddie" Cammon Jr., Elaina Maria Crawley and Lisa Cammon.

He worked at Howard Uniform until acquiring his life-long job at CSX. There. he worked various positions; walking the train tracks, the Caller's Office and finally, retiring as a Customer Service Representative in April 2004.

Later in life, George began a relationship with Elaine Douglas Harris, After two years of being together, on November 8, 1985, George and Elaine were united in Holy Matrimony. They became a blended family with eight children to include the late Karen Denise Harris Crosby. God blessed their marriage with obedience to their vows, love, trust, respect and commitment to each other and to God! To Elaine, George was her "Mr. Wonderful"  The mountains were high and the valleys were low, BUT, God! He was their Anchor!

Praise God for Grace and mercy that kept him and allowed him to rededicate his life to Christ and returned back to the Israel Church. He surrendered all to God, not in perfection, but in growth.

George served in different areas of Ministry at Israel. He sang on the Choir, served with Sanctuary Without Walls Ministry, he was an integral part of the Outdoor Worship Services and gave Leadership to The Trustee and Finance Ministries.

After George relocated to Jacksonville, Florida because of his job transfer he and Elaine united with the fellowship of The Sanctuary @ Mt. Calvary family, under the leadership of Pastor John Allen Newman. His Ministry of service there involved being Pastor's Armor Bearer, Leader of the Security Ministry, commitment to the Men's Ministry, Finance, Executive Council and on November 1, 1998 he was ordained to the Brotherhood, where he later served as leader of this Ministry. He maintained his connection with the men of Israel Through their Prayer line three times weekly until his health began to fail.

George was faithful in Ministry, doing his best to be helpful, encouraging and was serious about The Kingdom. Yet, he never forgot where God brought him from and didn't mind telling it! God didn't remove the fun part of him. He enjoyed music, watching old Westerns and ALL of the Dick Wolf shows. And all along the way, he was looking sharp---from the crown of his head to his shined shoes! He loved laughter, kidding and had a desire to enjoy life.

In 2019, George was diagnosed with his third type of cancer. He didn't give up on life. Even after being discharged to Home Hospice Care, he didn't give up on life. He was a warrior! For almost five months, he was partially self-reliant! Every step of the way, he received loving personal care from Elaine. This season of his journey brought their family even closer together.

Death is a celebration of life on earth and a graduation to life eternal! George transitioned on Thursday, July 14, 2022. But, because of God's grace and mercy, his life is "to be continued!" It's been guaranteed by a risen Christ!

George leaves precious memories for his devoted and loving wife, Elaine; daughters, Elaina Crawley, Lisa Cammon (Dawn); son, Reginald Harris (Pam); daughters, Deborah Logan, Lynette Harris Curtis (Irvin); son, Keith Harris (Cheryl); 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, one sister, Lizzie Martin, brother-in-law, Donald Douglas (Rose); Ollen Douglass (Delores); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Pastor John A.
