George H Marks Jr.

George Herbert Marks, son of the late George and Lucy Marks, was born August 10, 1928, in Stony Creek, Virginia. He departed this life peacefully on January 25, 2018

George received his education in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon completion of his education, he joined the Armed Services. He was employed with Bethlehem Steel until retirement.

At an early age he attended Faith Baptist Church. George joined New Carmel Star Baptist Church in 1990 under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Leander Brown, Sr. and served under the leadership of Reverend Everette Givens from 2002 until his health began to fail. George was a faithful member of the Sr. Usher Board and was ordained as a Deacon in 2009.

In 1968 George was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Gracie TY. Marks and was married for 40 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory two loving daughters: Colette M. Piercy (Williams) and Cheryl M. Hilliard (Jerome); one grandson, Nicholas Claiborne; two granddaughters, Jernelle and Cherrell Hilliard (all of Richmond, VA); one brother-in-law Wallace Mosley (Mary); two sisters-in-law, Helen Mitchell and Elsie Ferrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Four devoted friends Wendy Drake, Karen Wilson, Robert Parker and Wanda Banks.

George made numerous friends wherever he went and will be seriously missed by everyone he knew.
