GENEVA PATTERSON JONES, the only daughter of the late Thomas Patterson and late Esther McClean Patterson, was born on October 30, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was one of six siblings born to Thomas and Esther- brothers, James, Wilbert and Herman preceded her in death.
Geneva grew up and was a product of East Baltimore. She attended the public schools of Baltimore, where she was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. She also attended Towson University. From a child, she was reared and nurtured in a loving home. Geneva gave her life to Christ at a young age. She was a member of Israel Baptist Church and enjoyed praising the Lord with Pastor Wilson as he ran around the church.
Geneva gained employment at various places. Her first job as a clerk was with the District Court of Maryland. For many years, she was employed as a welder by Gould Defense Electronics, a contractor for the Department of Defense. Her last place of employment was with Optical Fair, where she worked as an Optician Assistant and sales assistant for 36 years until her untimely death. She also shared her gift of 'Helps' as a caregiver to at-risk seniors and the disabled. Geneva would work a fulltime day and still make time after work to care for someone in need.
On December 19, 1967, Geneva was united in marriage to Milton Jones who preceded her in death. She was a devoted mother to her children, Milton Jones, Jr., Alphonso Jones and Sterlina Finch. The loves of her life were grandson, Keiron; granddaughter, Cire', and her great-granddaughter, Denver.
As a homemaker, Geneva's home was always immaculate-everything spotless everything in place. Geneva was an excellent cook and always made sure everyone was fed, including herself. She was always the life of the party...making you laugh when you did not want to try. She was a bright light to everyone who knew her, especially to the friends of her children and grandchildren; she was a mother to all. Geneva met no strangers.
On Wednesday evening, August 17, 2016, the Lord touched Geneva and gently took her into his loving arms and only he knows the reason why. Not only is she now in the presence of Jesus, but also with her loved ones who have journeyed on before her.
Geneva is now happy with Jesus and waiting to welcome to Glory those loved ones that she has left behind: her loving sons, Milton Jones, Jr. and Alphonso Jones: her ride or die daughter, Sterlina Finch; devoted grandson, Keiron Hale; loving grandmother, Cire' Brown; adorable great-granddaughter, Denver Hale; brothers, Gilbert and William Patterson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Jones; brother-in-law, Michael Jones; sisters-in-law, Hilda Patterson, Margaret Patterson, Anita Moore and Bernita Booker; nephews, Donald, James, Wilbert, Sherrod, Frank and Tavon Patterson, Gregory Booker, Dontae Moore, Charles Jones, Jr., Keith Matthews, and Morris Worrell; nieces, Ophelia, Jeanette, Shawan, Timeka Patterson, Tiffany Matthews-Washington, Deidra Golder, Jenitra Prince and Charminique Finch; cousins, Linda Bayard, Kate Outen, Evelyn Pompey, Rosa Mudd, Delores Black, Betty Johnson, Kenneth Geralds; god-daughter, Talisha Johnson, adopted daughter, Tia Thomas; a devoted friend, Rob; dear sister/friends, Michelle Peaks and Jackie White-Hamilton; her Sister-sista, Mary 'Lou' Dent; brother-in-love, Kenneth 'Slick' Dent, Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends
