Gene Johnaton Cooper, son of the late Wilbur Cooper Sr. and Mildred Bass, was born on August 13, 1954, in Baltimore, MD. On December 25, 2024, God suddenly called his angel home following his angel his mother Mildred Bass and brothers Dennis Cooper and Leonard Cooper known as Peanut.
Gene was known for his carpentry and learning home improvement at a young age. He loved working with his hands and gaining knowledge in home improvement from his late Uncle Joseph Woodrum. Gene enjoyed building and doing home improvement jobs, mastering laying tile and sheet rock as a teen.
At an early age Gene was baptized. Gene received and completed his formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
Gene enjoyed conditioning his body at an early age in high school and remained athletic until later in his life. After High School he enlisted in the Navy, where he served for four years receiving an honorable discharge. He then went on to work for the City of Baltimore, Water Works Department.
He then married Debrah Tucker and had three beautiful children.
Gene enjoyed distant bike riding and loved training his favorite breed of dogs, Rottweilers. Gene continued to do home improvement being self- employed as an independent contractor until he became ill.His battle with serious medical issues showed his courage in facing life challenges with determination.
Gene leaves to cherish his memories to his daughter Keina Calhoun (Chicory Calhoun) son, Donnell Cooper, daughter Shannon Cooper and his bonus daughter Carlita Blanton. Gene has six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Brothers Wilbur L. Cooper Jr.(Joanne Cooper, deceased), George E. Grandy, Sisters, Cheryl R. Harris (Keith Harris) and Andrea Williams. He has a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends. He has a dear friend Dwain Timmons known as Wain who was his care provider when he took ill until his death.
