Gary A.
Pearson
January 25, 1959 – February 10, 2026
Gary Anthony Pearson, known as “Nicky,” passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026 at the age of 67. Born on January 25, 1959 and raised in East Baltimore.
He attended Dunbar High school and played basketball. Gary lived a life rooted in family, service, mentorship and a love for sports and community.
Gary was the beloved husband of Gwendolyn Tucker-Pearson, his partner in life and love for nearly 50 years. Their story began when they were just 15 years old, growing up on Bond St., two blocks away from each other. Gary moved to California where he lived for a few years, then returned to Baltimore and started a relationship with Gwendolyn (Princess). He Always expressed that she was the reason he came back. They have been together through every season of life with unwavering devotion.
He was the son of the late Joseph L Pearson Sr., grandson of Alice Dooley, grandmother and Agnes Gilbert, who preceded him in death. Mother Agnes Shumate; Cousin / Brother Bryant Dooley his wife Joann; brother Joseph Pearson Jr.; sisters Kia Pearson, Tammy Pearson and Kheila Pearson; a proud father, Gary who poured his heart into raising his children, Gary V. Pearson and Chanell Pearson. Instilling in them strength, resilience and deep family values. His greatest joy was being “G-Dad” to his grandchildren Cameron, Andre and Neveah and to his great-granddaughter Heaven. Nothing lifted up his spirits more than time spent with them, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
Gary dedicated 47 years of service to the Baltimore City Water Department before retiring as a Supervisor, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Gary, especially basketball. He began playing with his first team, the Jammers and continued playing throughout his school years, building a deep love for the game. He later poured that same passion into coaching and mentoring young people at Oliver Recreational Center and Saint Frances Academy. To his players he was more than a coach, he was a steady guide, a role model and a constant source of encouragement. He believed deeply in discipline, teamwork and playing with heart, lessons that stayed with his players long after they left the court.
Gary was also a devoted fan of all sports, proudly cheering on the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles, attending games whenever he could and celebrating each victory with enthusiasm. He loved traveling, attending sporting events, enjoying good food, and watching movies.
Those who knew Gary recognized his tough, no-nonsense demeanor and they also knew he wasn’t fond of hearing the words “I Don’t Know”. Beneath that firmness was a man full of love, steady loyalty and quiet generosity. He was a devoted father, a proud and loving grandfather, a loyal friend and a mentor who made a lasting difference simply by believing in others.
Gary leaves behind a host of brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, coworkers, and former players whose lives were touched by his wisdom, humor, and steady presence.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind, a life full of love, guidance and enduring impact. Gary’s memory will continue to inspire us to stay strong, love deeply and show up for family, just as he always did. His spirit lives on in every life he shaped and every lesson he shared.
