Florence E. White

FLORENCE ELIZABETH WHITE, 97, wife of the late John Archer White, died December 31, 2019, in Memphis. She was one of seven children born to Nannie and Edwin Bentley, of Dillwyn, Va. A longtime resident of Baltimore, Mrs. White moved to Memphis to live with her daughter, Joyce in 2014.

She moved to Baltimore in 1941 and married John, her childhood sweetheart. The couple had two children, John Clinton White and Joyce White Tabb. They routinely enjoyed family picnics at Druid Hill Park.

Mrs. White was a retired teacher's aide at Mt. Royal Elementary School where she taught reading to elementary school children. For about 20 years, she operated "Florence's Beauty Salon" at 420 E. Lafayette Avenue and was a member of the Maryland Beauticians Association.

She accepted Christ as her Savior at a very young age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church in Virginia. After relocating to Baltimore, she joined the Faith Baptist Church in 1941 where she faithfully served as a deaconess among various other capacities. She was a part of the Women's Auxiliary of the United Baptist Missionary Convention of Maryland, The Red Hat Society Club, Inc., and at one time the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. White lived a full life. She enjoyed various crafts at different times, including making hats, crocheting, making quilts, sculpting and painting. She loved spending time with her family and was always thinking of others, sending cards on all occasions. She also enjoyed national and international travels. Among her most noted travels were countries of the Mediterranean and visiting the city of Florence, Italy.

In addition to two children, John and Joyce, Mrs. White leaves to cherish her legacy, her sister, Daisy Reynolds; four grandchildren, Rev. Anthony White, David White, Clinton White, Aria White Connor; one step-grandson, Ain Welmon; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
