EVANGELINE TURNAGE-BRANDON was born on August 5, 1947, in Farmville, North Carolina, to the late Lucy Taylor-Turnage and Henry Turnage. She was one of eleven children and was preceded in death by all ten of her siblings. Evangeline also known as "Sister", a name she truly earned, departed this life on February 5, 2026.
At an early age Sister and her family relocated to Baltimore City where she received her education through the Baltimore City Public School System. She began her career at Johns Hopkins Hospital, working in Central Supply. Dedicated to caring for others, she later earned her Nursing Assistant Certification and continued her service at Stella Maris Nursing Facility, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. Her compassion and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
On January 24, 1974, Sister married her soulmate, John Harrison Brandon, lovingly known as "Hue." Their love stood the test of time. The love that Sister and Hue shared was steady, warm and deeply rooted in faith and trust. It was a quiet strength that carried them through both laughter and hardship. In each other, they found not only love, but a lifelong home. From their beautiful union, two children were born, Danielle M. Brandon and Michael A. Brandon.
Honoring the vows they took before God, Hue tenderly cared for her throughout her illness until her passing. His love and faithfulness reflected the sacred promise they made, standing by her side with unwavering strength and compassion.
A devoted woman of faith, Sister was a committed member of Christian Temple Baptist Church. She faithfully served as a Deaconess and worked diligently in the Kitchen Ministry. She also used her nursing skills to care for others within her church community. Sister had a passion for sewing and cooking, and she was especially known for making the best mince barbecue and potato salad in town- two dishes that brought family and friends together time and time again.
Sister leaves to cherish her precious memory: her devoted husband, John Harrison Brandon; daughter, Danielle M. Brandon; sons, Michael A. and Harrison T. Brandon Sr.; and adopted son, Harrison T. Brandon Jr. She was the proud grandmother of eighteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. She also leaves nine sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Sister's legacy of love, faith, strength and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she has departed from this earthly life, her warmth, wisdom and unwavering devotion to family and community will never be forgotten.
