Eva Dell Winkler

Eva Dell Winkler was the fourth of seventeen children born to the late

Henry and Della Whitehead in Lunenburg County, Virginia on May 28,

1926. She peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday,

October 6, 2017.

Eva attended school in Lunenburg County and worked on the farm with

her parents and brothers and sisters until she was eighteen when she

left Virginia and moved to Baltimore, Maryland to live with her sisters

Hattie Bell and Mary Alice.

Priori to moving to Baltimore, Eva Joines the Loan Oak Baptist Church,

Keysville, Virginia where she was baptized and accepted Christ Jesus as

her personal savior. her Belief in Jesus and worship of him only grew in

her for the remainder of her life.

In Baltimore Eva Joined the Fountain Baptist Church and remained a

faithful member of approximately seventy-three years. At Fountain she

served on the Sick Committee (Missionaries) and was faithful in

attendance and her giving. She is also credited with being the longest

substaining member of the NAACP of the NAACP at Fountain.

In Baltimore she met Walter Winkler, fell in love and got married. Their

marriage lasted sixty-two years and God blessed them with two sons,

Alvin and Larry (Wendell). Walter and Eva grew up less than ten miles

apart but never knew each other before Baltimore.

Eva was employed at the Bulge Laundry in the East Baltimore and later

she became a clothing inspector for L. Griffin Brothers, clothing

manufacturer. Eva retired at an early age and became a complete

homemaker.

Eva was an excellent cook and folk loved her coconut cake and corn

pudding. She was serious about keeping a clean house and having no

daughters she taught her sons to cook and clean. As hard as they tried to

clean house, the right way, they still had to survive her inspections. She

would not hesistate to say "do this again".

Eva was an outstanding example of a christian woman. She had a giving

heart and would send donations to most organizations that would send

mail asking for help. She loved her family and church family. If she could

not say a kind word about you she would smile and say nothing.

Eva leaves to cherish her memory her sons Alvin (Kathryn) and Larry

Wendell (Janora); two grandsons, Alvin Jr. (Brandy) and Alan (Priscilla);

four granddaughters Stephanie (Tony), Dawn, Da nielle and Cherice,

fifteen great grandchildren and Six great great, brother Rufus Whitehead

(Patricia), four sisters, Ida Johnson and Ann Alford of Philadelphia, PA,

Ruth Jackson (James) of Victoria, vA and Katherine Smith (Clarence) of

Crewe,Va and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
