Listen to Obituary

Eunice Anna Moore, daughter of the late James Thomas Holley and Alice Johnson Holley, was born on March 1, 1936 in Blackstock, South Carolina. The Lord called her home on August 29, 2020 after a lengthy illness.

She received her education in Fairfield County Public Schools. At an early age, she became a member of the Mount Visit AME Church where she served until her move to Baltimore in 1960. After relocating, she soon joined the New Friendship Baptist Church. Here, she served on Culp’s Jubilee Vocal Choir for many years.

Eunice began working at Misty Harbor Textiles of Middle River in the late 60s. She worked here for nearly 20 years until the plant closed in 1984. Soon after, she began working for M.R. Hopkins Transportation Company as a bus aide. She loved being with the school kids and everyday, she had a story to tell about them. She was Hopkins’ longest-standing employee (20 years) until her health would not allow her to work anymore and she retired in 2011.

In 1957, Eunice married the late Joseph “JoeMoe” Alexander Moore. They were married for 52 years until his death in 2010. From this union, three children were born.

Eunice was known was her cooking, her specialties being sweet potato pie and a pastry she called “stickers.” Neighbors asked her to make pies while family and close friends literally fussed with each other about her stickers. She was also known for talking to any and everyone; she asked anybody anything she wanted to know, and actually got answers from them, including strangers (lol). It was just something about her. She loved talking on the phone and knowing the neighborhood tea. She became “grandma” to everyone. She will be truly missed by her family, neighbors and friends.

She leaves to mourn: two daughters, Carolyn E. and Jovetta Moore; one son, Joseph A. Moore Jr.; two grandchildren, Daryl R. Ford (Kay) and Keshawn L. Harris (Kennard Ford preceded her in death); ve great-grandchildren, Kenara, Xavier, Kennard Jr, Zipporah and Josette Ford; two sisters, Bernice and Carnell Holley of NC; three sisters in-law, Thelma Moore and Georgianna Holley of SC and Maggie Mobley of CT; special cousins/sisters, Bertha Weldon, Mattie Hedgepeth, Daisy Long and Lucille Jennings of MD and Annie Ruth Foster of SC; bestie neighbors Ann Robinson, Japoniceker Gordon and Thelma Eatmon; adopted “work” daughter, Wanda “Pinkey” Valentine; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
