Ernestine Leola Duncan-English, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend gained her wings on Friday December 1, 2023. Ernestine was born June 15, 1947 to Ernest Lee and Ruby LaBelle Duncan in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the 3rd of 6 siblings.

She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School, later to work in the retail, insurance, and customer service industry from which she retired.

In 1973, she married Calvin Banks and to this union one son, Duncan, was born. She later remarried to Edward English in 1999.

Ernestine, (Aunt “Tine '' as she was affectionately called), loved worshiping the Lord. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at the New Friendship Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Joseph Culp. She served for many years on the Senior Choir and the Missionary Board.

In 1983, she became a charter member of the New Mt. Joy Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Samuel Donaldson for over 30 years. During this time she also served under the leadership of pastors Elder D.W. Major, Rev. L. Jefferson, and Apostle D.E. Hamilton. She served as the Sunday School Superintendent and Instructor, a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Joy Jubilee Chorus, Missionary Board, Outreach Ministry, and the Mother’s Board.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Maxine Carter, Henry Duncan, Patricia McLendon, Gloria Duncan-Stackhouse, and niece Nicole Duncan-Chandler.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her only son, Duncan D. Banks, granddaughter Jordan Banks, Step daughter Alicia English & her daughter Asia Boyd, & husband Edward English. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother Todd D. Duncan and wife Cynthia, sister -in-law Janice Duncan wife of Henry, nieces & nephews Todd A. Duncan and wife Chantell, Detrick Marion and wife Keisha, Todd Duncan, Geanine Holliday and husband Olivie, Michele Duncan-Grays and husband Clifton, Goddaughter Thelma Yvette Donaldson, and a host of great-nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
