Dorothy L.
Mickey
Mar 21, 1942 — Jul 21, 2026
DOROTHY LEE MICKEY, daughter of the late Bessie Mickey Peaks and Benjamin Peaks, was born on March 21, 1942, and peacefully entered eternal rest on July 21, 2026.
Dorothy was the eldest of eight children. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where her faith became the foundation of her life.
She graduated from Dunbar Senior High School in 1960 and continued her education at Morgan State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She later worked for the United States Postal Service during the 1987 Christmas season before beginning a career as a court clerk. Dorothy faithfully served in that position until her retirement in 2012.
Dorothy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking, dancing and enjoyed eating Maryland crabs and fish. She was an avid fan of Law & Order, Lifetime Movie Network, and Family Feud. She also enjoyed cheering on the Baltimore Ravens while relaxing with her favorite Schaefer beer. Every holiday was a special occasion to Dorothy, and she delighted in decoration her home to celebrate each one.
Above all, Dorothy treasured her family and friends. She had a warm and generous spirit and always made sure the children in the family had something to eat. Her kindness, love and nurturing heart touched everyone who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin, Sr and Bessie (Mickey) Peaks; her brothers, Ernest Peaks and Benjamin Peaks, Jr.; her sisters, Vernelle Scott, Delores Peaks and Bernice Truxton.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted daughter, Lakeisha Mickey; her beloved grandson, Antonio Johnson; her sisters, Yvonne Peaks and Doris Peaks; her brother-in-law, Barry Truxton; her sister-in-law, Rebecca Peaks; a host of nieces and nephews, including her special nephew, Erie Peaks and her special niece, Shaneeka Peaks, who lovingly and faithfully checked on her; her beloved cousin, Alicia Foster, with whom she shared a special bond; and a host of cousins and other relatives and dear friends.
Dorothy's love, kindness, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
