DOROTHY CREWS KENDALL, was born on August 19, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Mabel Johnson Crews and Bernard Crews. She was called home to glory suddenly on June 10, 2020.
Dorothy, affectionately known as "Miss Doris" or "Aunt Doris" to family and friends, she received her education in Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Dunbar High School. After high school she attended University of Maryland Nursing School. After finishing nursing school, she worked for several years as a nurse. Doris enjoyed working with children and families. In late 1980's she began working for Cardinal Shehan School (formally known as St. Matthew's) where her children attended school. She worked in the cafeteria at Cardinal Shehan until she retired.
Doris was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church. She was very dedicated to her church, serving with the Women's League, Senior Missionaries and as a Christian educator. Additionally, she was a member of the Mass Choir and the Simon Williamson Choir. Doris loving traveling with church members to Korea and places throughout the United States.
Doris leaves to cherish fond memories: her daughters Angela Harris and Bettye Thurman; three granddaughters, Alexcia Redd, Mercedez Harris and Christian Harris; three grandsons, Dwayne Thurman Jr., Marvin Harris III and Steven Stokes; one niece, Katrina Watson; two nephews, Efrem Crews and Christopher Crews; one son-in-law, Dwayne Thurman; seven great-grandchildren, Imani, Michael, Andrew Redd, Ashton Thomas, Ashire Harris, Aeris Burley, Kailey Pearson and a host of other relatives and friends.
