DOROTHY VIVIAN ROOSEVELT DIGGS, daughter of the late Helen and Jesse Roosevelt was born on April 14, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on February 12, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School system and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
Upon completion of her education, she was employed at Mercy Hospital, first as a Nurse’s aide. After receiving on-the-job training in computer skills, Dorothy was promoted to a secretarial position. She retired from Mercy Hospital in 1994 after thirty-one years of service.
As a child, Dorothy attended Centennial Methodist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Christ United Methodist Church in 1996. An active and faithful member, Dorothy served for many years as president of the Greeters Ministry. She was also a member of: Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, Senior Ministry, Health and Wellness Ministry, Missionary, Youths Summer Camp. In 2018, Dorothy was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her “commitment and valuable contributions” to the church.
She married Murrel Diggs on January 13, 1954. They remained married for fifty-six years until Murrel’s death on November 22, 2010. Their children are: Brenda Wallace, Larry Wallace and Murrel (Money) Diggs, Jr.
Dorothy was an avid reader and an amateur photographer. She was a member of a travel club that visited Atlantic City, NJ, and cities in Pennsylvania and Canada, just to name a few.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Brenda and Larry Wallace; 1 stepson, Murrel (Money) Diggs, Jr.; grandchildren, Joquetta Siscoe, Larry Wallace Jr., and Lamar Wallace and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters: Portia V. Roosevelt, Thema Scott, and Libby P. Roosevelt-Adams and brother, Roy M. Roosevelt; sister-in-law Virginia M. Diggs-Evans, and a host of other relatives and close friends.
