DEACONESS DORIS ANN "DOT" STAPLES loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt & friend was peacefully called home on December 20, 2022, at the age of 83.
Doris was born on April 28, 1939, in Ridge Spring, South Carolina to Robert and Mildred Lee Hazzard. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church where she was baptized.
She received her education from the Ridge Spring Public School System. In 1960 at the age of 21 she along with her three young children (Larry, Linda & Marvin) moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
Doris met and married the love of her life Charlie Leon Staples and from this union one son was born Carl. During her years of working, she was employed by Overlea Medical Group as a secretary and later became a nurses aid. After leaving Overlea she took time away from the work force to care for Ms. Mary Bullock and several of her grandchildren. Then she later became employed by Esther's Place Assistant Living. Lastly, she worked for the Baltimore City Public School Systems Experience Core at Waverly Elementary School.
Doris loved the Lord and began attending Grace Baptist Church in 1970 under Reverend Ed Dowdy. She was a faithful member who was an usher, trustee, Sunday School Teacher, read announcements, helped with the kitchen committee and much more she is mostly known for directing the play "Women of the Bible" on December 16, 1995, she became a Deaconess when Deacon Staples was ordained under Reverend Trent Hayes.
In her spare time Dot had many hobbies including: Crocheting, bowling, cooking, word search puzzles, playing numbers (as Charlie would say), watching her favorite soap operas and making her famous fruit cakes and Watergate salad.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents Robert & Mildred Hazzard, son Marvin A. Hazzard Sr. and grandson Tavon Holmes.
She is survived by husband Charlie L. Staples, children Larry (Barbara) Hazzard, Linda (Charlie) Jackson and Carl Staples Sr. (Sheila). Sixteen grandchildren; Tameka, Larry Jr. Marvin Jr, Corey, Lamont Sr, Charles, Clarence, Precious, Wast, Carl Jr, Tyekia, Sierra, Chrissy, Angelique and Autumn. One granddaughter-in-law Rochelle Hazzard and four bonus grandchildren-in-love, Leroy, Fred, Shatarra & Gino; thirty-plus great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; four goddaughters, Nita, Avenette, Gina & Shawn one sister-in-law, Emma Pembroke; three nieces, one nephew, three special girlfriends known as "The Golden Girls", Louise Harvey, Albertina Whitten and Sheila Robinson; two bonus babies, Cortez Williams and Brooke Fields and a host of family, church family and friends.
