Doretha Allen, daughter of the late Mander and Ella Allen, was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on February 1, 1930. She departed this life on September 21,2015 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

She received her religion at an early age and was baptized at St. Lukes Baptist Church in South Carolina. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, she joined Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. She later met and married Burnie Rhodes Sr and from this union were 15 children.

Doretha was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Doretha was employed at various companies, City Hospital, Rosewood Institution and also various housekeeping jobs just to name a few. Doretha, known to many as "Mama Rhodes", was well loved by all whom had a chance to meet her. She loved to cook "Soul Food" and two of her specialties were "pigfeet" and "rice pudding". She loved going to the casinos, playing cards and was the "Queen" of playing lottery. She also enjoyed dancing and everyone that knew her, knew if you got her wrong, she had a mean "right hook". Doretha was always willing to lend a helping hand to any and everyone, no matter the situation. She was a caring and very giving woman who will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her sons; Burnie Jr, Marvin, Alvin, Martinez, Kevin, and also a set of unborn twins. Her siblings; Della Mae Scott, Bernice Anderson, Elizabeth Kemp, Dorothy Wilson, John Allen, and Aaron Allen.

She leaves to cherish her memory; seven daughters; Gwendolyn, Jacqueline, Doretha M, Linda, Brenda, Melvinia, and Jennifer; one son; Andre; twenty-one grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and a long term family friend, Willie Abraham, and a host of other relatives and friends.
