Listen to Obituary

And so it was - Donald Gerald Moody was born on April 29, 1938 in Baltimore,

Maryland to the late Frank and Ada Moody. He was the sixth of seven children.

At an early age, Donald was baptized as a member of Faith Baptist Church where

his mother, Ada Moody and Aunt Pearl Brown were faithful members until the

time of their deaths. In more recent years, Donald enjoyed attending Ray of Hope

Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Charles M. Franklin, Jr. who took

special interest in Donald.

Donald, affectionately known as “Duck”, received his formal education in

Baltimore City Public Schools where he shined as the star quarterback at Paul

Laurence Dunbar High School and was a proud member of Dunbar’s esteemed

member of the graduating class of 1956. Donald went on to enlist in the U.S Army

and served his country with honor for 8 years.

In 1964, Donald married Phyllis Wilson. This union produced one beautiful

daughter, Audra “Sam” Moody. Donald was an extremely devoted family man that

made unmeasurable sacrifices. He lovingly shared his fatherly influences with

many and was known to give whatever he could. Before there was an Uber or

Lyft, there was Donald – right there to help you get where you needed to be!

Donald was a natural born comedian. Duck thought very highly of his fellow

alumni and enjoyed many social gatherings with them, where he was known to

showcase his moves on the dance floor.

Donald found great joy in helping others; this was proven through his 46 years of

faithful employment at Montebello State Hospital. His time there was filled with

numerous accolades for his dedication to his patients as well as his attendance.

Upon retiring from Montebello, Donald felt there was still more for him to do and

as a result he reentered the workforce and dedicated another 10 years of

nursing services at Kernan Specialty Hospital.

Donald was preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Mayo and Elsye Robinson and

brothers, Frank, Ernest and James Moody.

He leaves to continue his legacy his loving daughters, Denise Chambers and

Audra Beard (Roy); a devoted son, Donte Moody; a devoted sister, Gail Patricia

Moody; grandchildren, Christopher, Donise, Porshe, Sydni and Reese; nephews,

Gerald Moody (Glendy), Brian Boyd (Wanda), Pierre Moody (Yvonne), Eric Lee

(Talina) and Terrance Moody; nieces, Cheryl Moody, Gail Moody-Bugg (John) and

Vernell Walker; goddaughter, Donna Marie; children whom he loved and raised as

his own, Tonya McCoy, Keyauna Anderson, Tikisha Young and Devin Anderson and

a host of other relatives and friends.
