DARLING KNOX-SOMERVILLE was born and raised in Baltimore, MD on December 10, 1956. Daughter of the late James and Daisy Knox. She peacefully transitioned from this life on February 12, 2024. Darling received her education through Baltimore City Public School System; graduating from Lake Clifton High School in 1974.
Darling was a workaholic. Wherever she worked, Darling worked hard and gave each position her best. Her career spanned over 40 years beginning with AMVET Thrift Store, Johns Hopkins Hospital (17years), St. Agnes Hospital (5years), and Franklin Square Hospital (15years). Darling was not ready to retire, however, her health began to decline which resulted to an early retirement on November 7, 2017.
Darling joined United Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Reverend Dr. George Edward Vanderford. Alongside her mother, Daisy, Raymond (brother), Linda (sister), and Larry (nephew) in the spring of 1970. She was actively involved in church activities. She faithfully served on the Young Adult Usher Board (now known as the HOST Team) and the Excelsior Choral Ensemble. Darling enjoyed ushering. Although, the choir no longer exist, she continued to serve on the Usher Board. Later being appointed as Lead under the leadership and guidance of Reverend Dr. Carl J. Solomon who succeeded Dr. Vanderford after his retirement in 1991.
Known for her love of writing, Darling would take notes verbatim. She recorded instructions and the Word of God as it was preached by her beloved Pastor Solomon. Family oriented, thoughtful and selflessly always helping others. She had a bright smile and good sense humor. Darling could make you smile on a bad day and laugh non-stop.
Darling first marriage to Ricardo Valentine (15years), later met and married Richard Somerville on January 16, 2003. Richard preceded her in death on July 15, 2023. Darling preceded in death by three brother Elton & Willie Privette, Raymond Knox, one sister, Shirley and grandson, Dion Jr.
Darling leaves to cherish her loving memories two daughters, Tracey & Christina (Kelly); son, Donald Sr. (Peanut); eight grandchildren, Dionna, Daisha, Dana Jr., Diondray, Kelsean, Deaierra, Donald Jr., and Donald IV; seven great grandchildren, Da'Kari, September, Dimir, Dynver, A'Mora, Donald III, and Emma Jean; one brother, James Knox (Joann Corporal); two sisters, Geraldine Peaker (Elder Charles Peaker Sr.) and Linda Knox; special friend, Robert Swinger (Bob), and a host of relatives and friends.
