Darlene
Williams
March 20, 1956 – March 26, 2026
On March 20, 1956, a beautiful light entered the world—Darlene Weaver Williams, affectionately known as “Big Darl,” born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Edward Leroy Weaver Jr. and Gloria Kennedy Bills. Surrounded by love, she peacefully transitioned into eternal rest in God’s arms.
Darlene’s life reflected love, joy, and unwavering faith. She graduated from Forest Park High School and, in 1976, married Michael R. Williams Sr. From this union came two beloved children: Michael R. Williams Jr. (“Sonny Boy”), who preceded her in glory, and her devoted daughter, Kelly Williams-Porter.
A proud resident of Cedonia, she became known as the “Mother of Cedonia,” a pillar of warmth and community. She dedicated 15 years each to Catalyst Research and General Dynamics before fulfilling her dream role with Southwest Airlines, where she thrived and built meaningful relationships.
Darlene lived life fully, joyful, stylish, and full of purpose. She cherished time with her daughter Kelly, her great-granddaughter Brooklyn (“Buttercup”), and loved traveling, day trips, and making memories with family and friends. A faithful member of United Baptist Church, she found strength and joy in her church family.
To know Darlene was to love her. She lit up every room with her radiant smile and fearless dancing. Whether hosting family cookouts, enjoying weekly gatherings, or simply showing up for others, she did so with love and consistency. Her famous potato salad and time at the grill were family staples, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted daughter, Kelly Porter (Shawn); her beloved son, Michael R. Williams Jr.; her grandchildren, Desmond, Jasmine, Michael (“Mike Mike”), Malik, Shawn Jr. (“Boo-Boo”), and Montez (“Mook”); her treasured great-grandchildren, Brooklyn (“Buttercup”), Zari (“Tootsie Roll”), Raine, Jace, and Malik Jr. (“LJ”); her bonus grandchildren, Lafawn, Jasmine Porter, Antwan, Ikea, and Tyesha (“Ty-Ty”); her loving sisters, Senora (Danny) and Kimberly (DaCiaro), with her sister Lolita preceding her in glory; and her brothers, Anthony, Edward Jr. and Marvin, who also welcomed her home.
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Jackie Bert-West, Gloria Pack, and her cherished sister circle: Debbie Nelson, Debbie Billups, and Trina Mellows—and even her beloved lizard, Lizzy.
Today, we do not say goodbye—we celebrate a life well lived. Though she has taken her rest, her spirit will continue to dance in our hearts forever.
