Listen to Obituary

Darlene Denise Brogden affectionately known as Doll, was born on November 29, 1958 to the late John, Sr. and Emma Brogden in Baltimore, Maryland.

She was a good sister and friend to her brother John Noakes Brogden, Jr. and Elvira Johnson, who preceded her in death. The angels escorted her home to heaven on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Darlene received her education from Dunbar high school. After attending high school, she began working as a bus driver for Towson University and then for Greyhound Lines Inc. She then worked for Baltimore County Public Works where she retired in 2017.

One of Darlene’s greatest joys was her son, Derek. She enjoyed spending time with him fishing and crabbing. She also loved being a grandmother and cherished spending time with her three grandsons. Aunt Doll was everyone’s favorite aunt and would frequently host her nieces for sleepovers. She was known as the family jokester, you couldn’t be around her long, without tearfully laughing.

Darlene was very loving to all that she met. She was involved in her community and affectionately cared for many of those in the neighborhood. Ms. Doll, as they called her, would often provide gifts during the Christmas season. Doll’s favorite pastime was playing bingo. She developed friendships and was known to win at several bingo halls throughout the city. Family and friends would describe Darlene as the go-to girl. Whenever you had a problem, she would either know how to solve it or know someone who could. She also knew everyone’s business, mostly because she was easy to talk to, and people would confide in her. Everyone loved her deviled eggs and would request that she make them for every family event.

She leaves to cherish the memories her son, Derek Brogden; three grandsons, Nigel, Derek Jr., and Zaire; two brothers, Larry and Garry Brogden, one sister, Lena Brogden; one sister-in-law, Jackie Brogden; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Johnson; one goddaughter, Ebony Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She also leaves behind a special lifelong-partner, whom she loved, William Petty
