Listen to Obituary

COREY MICHAEL COOK, son of Michael William Cook and Shirley Ann Hubbard Taylor, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 18, 1970. The Lord called him home on January 5, 2023.

Corey gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. James L. Ball at Timothy Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD. As a young child he attended church, Sunday school, served on the youth usher board, and sang on the choir. He was always pulling on that ill-fitted neck tie his mother tried to tie.

Corey received his early education in the Baltimore City and County Schools. He graduated from Perry Hall Senior High School. Before graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force but when he returned from the induction center, he was an enlisted Marine. He said he liked the Marine uniforms better. After basic training at Paris Island, he was sent to the frontlines of Desert Storm.

Corey as a quiet spirit and soft-spoken. He had one dimple and a crooked smile that stole your heart. He loved his family and loved being in the midst of family no matter the occasion. He especially doted on his son, daughter, and grandchildren. He was loving and protective of his sisters. He had a beautiful and close relationship with his father whom he talked with daily and never missed visiting him every week. He often talked with and mentored the young men in the neighborhood.

Corey was very talented and was an artist. He could draw, paint, and assemble anything. He was excellent at woodworking. He even refinished his mother’s kitchen cabinets back to their natural wood. In Junior High School, he made a beautiful wooden grandfather clock for his mother which still works today. While in the military he received culinary training and was a wonderful chef. On Sundays, you could find him watching football with his Mom. He loved The Ravens. He loved playing video games and listening to 70’s R&B. Like his mother, he loved The Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, and The Isley Brothers.

Corey leaves to cherish his memory: His mother, Shirley Taylor; Father, Michael Cook; Daughter, Breonna Tania Cook (Muk); Son, Michael Kameron Cook; Three Grandchildren, Trenton, JaKobi, and Nova; Two Sisters, Kimberly Tates and Lorrie James-Hinton; One Brother-in-Law, Daniel; Other Siblings: Nichole, Natalie & Wyman Jr. Four Aunts: Synel Hubbard, Alvania Cook, Cynthia Cook, and Cecelia Arrington (Darryl), Two Great Aunts, Marie Dingle and Shirley Hunt (Edward), Baltimore, MD; Three Uncles, Darryl Hubbard (Denise), Anthony Hubbard, Baltimore, MD, and Stephen Cook (Germaine) of Spring, TX; A special and devoted best friend, Edward (Eddie) Jones; A special friend, Brenda Jones; Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
