Chester Manning Jr. was born on April 8, 1950, to the late Chester and Bessie Mae Manning in Coldwater, Mississippi. He received his education in Mississippi and graduated from Tate County High School in 1968.

Chester was drafted into the United States Army on July 9, 1969 and served our country for 3 years. During his service he fought in the Indochina Vietnam War from March 1970 to February 1971. Upon his return to the states, he was stationed in Fort Meade and relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Sergeant Chester Manning, Jr. became a veteran and continued his career with the army reserve and the Department of Defense receiving several awards and certifications as he diversified his broad range of skills. Some of his awards and honors include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam National Campaign Medal (with 60 devices); Aircraft Crewman Badge; Air Medal, Expert Badge Rifle M-16 and receiving the Purple Heart Medal. He returned on May 8, 2010 as a heavy mobile equipment repairer for the Department of Defense.

Chester married Sheila Denise Stewart on March 31, 1978, and from this union they were blessed with three children Tamanika Jones, (the late) Gordo9n Manning and Craig Manning. He enjoyed playing pool, watching westerns, and going to concerts.

He was called back to heaven on July 19, 2023, at the age of 73. Chester was preceded in death by his son Gordon Manning and he leaves behind his loving wife Shelia Manning, two children Tamanika (Fernando) Jones and Craig Manning; grandchildren, Breona Jones, Talia Jones, Camron Manning, Kayle Manning, Breyona Manning, Nigel Jones, Camiya Manning, Mekhi Manning, Maurice Manning and Cayden Manning; sisters and brothers, Charline Banks, Gladys Manning Cole, Mary Francis Cooper, Ruby Manning Wilson, Travis Manning, Dorothy M. Woods, Clain Manning Scott, Tommie Manning, Morris Manning, Patricia M. Davis, Robert Terry Manning, Tead Manning, Terry Bowen, (the Late) Shirley Manning,(the late) Brenda Manning, Cordero Caples, Colessia Porter and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
