Listen to Obituary

CHARLOTTE LOUISE MATTHEWS, was born on March 28, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland to George McMillan and Hazel Matthews. She quietly departed this life on December 21, 2020. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Elder Matthews was known for her love for her family, love for God and love for God's people. She was outspoken; said what she meant and meant what she said.

Elder Matthews was a great witness for the Lord, and was not ashamed of the Gospel, or where the Lord had brought her from. She was not afraid to share the Gospel to anyone she met. For many years she served on the ministerial staff of the Bethel A.M.E. church under the leadership of Bishop John Bryant. She loved her church and pastor and spoke often of the wonderful experiences at Bethel, including the opportunity to minister in Australia.

Elder Matthews preached across Baltimore City; not limiting her message to a pulpit, but where and whenever she saw the need. She was the annual Mother's Day speaker at Shiloh A.M.E. Church and a gifted revival preacher. She preached many revivals at the Garden of Prayer Christian Church and became a member in the early 2000's under the leadership of the late Apostle Melvin B. Tuggle, II and Rev. Dr. Brenda M. Tuggle. She served on the ministerial staff of Garden of Prayer until her health no longer allowed her to. She was a blessing to the Body of Christ, her pastor and her church family. Elder Charlotte Matthews was well loved by everyone who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Donnetta and Charlette; three sons, Donnell, William and Antoine (Tony); two son-in-laws, Sam Brown and Gary Cooper; one daughter-in-law, Pam Thompson; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; two very dear friends, Catherine (Cat) and Pat and a beloved Goddaughter, Delisa (Lisa).
