Catherine Gross was born to the late Field and Mamie Jacobs on September 10, 1938 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She was the fourth child of eight children. The family moved to Baltimore, MD when she was two years old. She departed this life on February 3, 2023.
Catherine received her education in Baltimore City Public School System. She attended Dunbar Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools. She accepted Christ as her person savior at an early age as her Lord and Savior. She loved the Lord. She was affectionately known to many as “Cat”. In 1958, she married Pierre Gross and from this union three children were born, Omoya, Sandra and Prentice. She was employed with the Esskay Meat Company and then the Baltimore Sun Newspaper company where she retired in 2003.
Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a very social able and always made friends. Cat was like a mother figure to quite a few. She was young at heart and she loved to laugh. She enjoyed going to stage plays, casinos and she always took her chances with playing the Maryland State lottery. She loved watching television especially a good comedy and old western shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pierre and her two daughters Omoya (Glen)and Sandra (Sandy), her parents, four brothers: Cleaven, James (Stump), Joseph (Jabo) and William (Jackie) Jacobs and one sister Beulah Steeple.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son Prentice (Grinado /Renee) Gross, Son-in-law Lionel Yewitt; three grandchildren Ivey, Adam (Heahter) Yewitt and Omoya Gross; four great grandchildren: Elijah, Nathaniel, Noah and Steven; two sisters: Gertrude Edmonds and Mary Alice Davenport and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
