CAROLYN ESTELLE LEWIS,was born July 28, 1935 the second of four children of the late Miles and Carrie Mae Lewis. Carolyn departed this life on September 17, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Carolyn was born at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She attended Dunbar elementary, Junior, as well as high school. She later attended school for keypunch operator which enhanced her position at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she worked for 16 years as a typist in the Bacteriology Lab. Carolyn really enjoyed her work and her co-workers until her retirement as a result of carpal tunnel. She then went on to work as a governess for two families helping to rear four children.
Now, if you didn't know, Carolyn was an avid bowler, not to mention her better than average ability as she won numerous trophies throughout the years. Carolyn also enjoyed gardening, sometimes I believe she had a green thumb and the neighbors seemed to agree at times asking her for advice for their flower beds.
Carolyn shared one son with Benjamin Baylor and was certainly one of her favorite achievements in life. Jerald Sr. was the apple of Carolyn's life. She was a strong disciplinarian, but backed it up with lots of love.
Carolyn was very instrumental in the care of her family in various ways, never once wavering her level of love for family, always willing to jump in and do what was needed. Towards the end of her journey, Jerald was there to take care of her until the end, trying to allow his mothers transition to be as peaceful as possible with the support of family. Jerald gave Carolyn her flowers while she was alive and now her work is done and what great memories she'll leave behind.
Carolyn was a long time parishioner of Timothy Baptist Church, attending for over 50 years. She loved the Lord and allowed herself to be a vessel for God's deeds. Serving as the church secretary for a number of years, accomplishing her takes often after completing her day job. She taught Sunday School and loved singing on the Gospel Choir.
Her memory lives on through: her son, Jerald Jerod Lewis I; grandchildren, Jerald II, Carrie, Miles and Carrissa Lewis; one sister, Debra Jester; two nephews, one niece; one god daughter, Carol Lyn Sells; two stepchildren, Anthony Baylor and Inetha Adams; closest cousin, Constance Lewis; and a host of family and friends that will remember her distinct laughter that could be heard throughout the room. Carolyn will truly be missed, but she leaves an abundance of heartfelt memories.
