Carmen Geraldine Washington affectionately known as Gerry was the daughter of the late Andrew Sr. and Mollie Ferges, was born September 11, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life July 23, 2024, after a short illness.
She received her education at Dunbar High School and later attended Cortez W. Peters Business School.
Gerry was baptized at New Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Willie S. Chambers. She served on various ministries at New Antioch, but her heart belonged to the Missionary Ministry. Gerry loved helping and teaching others.
She worked in the Baltimore public School System as a Paraprofessional for over 40 years. Lakewood Elementary was the last school she worked at; Gerry made some wonderful friends at every school she worked. She retired in 2012.
Gerry had her one and only child Kevin in 1965 (she called him “Sonny Boy”). Gerry sang with the Sonority Gospel Singers, and they released a single titled “I Got to Tell It”. She moved her church fellowship to the Shepherd Community Baptist Church in 1992 under the leadership of Reverend Andrew Ferges Jr. Gerry received her evangelical training from the Baltimore School of the Bible and graduated with honors on July 3, 2002. She was license to preach by Pastor Ferges, on August 11, 2013. Gerry was very creative, she loved reading, studying the Bible, drawing, teaching and singing. She loved the children and cared deeply for them. She loved everybody and would do whatever she could to help or advise them. Gerry was an active member of the Maryland Baptist Convention, serving on the Women's Ministry as treasurer and singing on the convention choir.
Gerry leaves to cherish her memories her son, Kevin Ferges; daughter in law Michele; stepdaughter Arlene Washington; sisters Sheila Saunders and Diane Love; brothers Andrew (Corrine) and Allen (Debbie); granddaughters Erica, Jessica and Amanda; grandson Ron; 4 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of cousins and friends.
