Bessie M. Zant

Bessie Zant, daughter of the late Hester Williams and Leo Easter, was born on December 4, 1941 in Halifax, North Carolina.  She departed this life on August 6, 2018 after a brief illness.

She received her education in North Carolina and Baltimore City Public Schools.  She became employed at Hutzler Department Store as a cook at age 21.  She was employed at Hutzler's for over 20 years before she began employment at Holiday Inn, also as a cook, in the late 1980’s. She was an excellent cook.   She retired from Holiday Inn in 2003.   Bessie was well liked and well awarded and rewarded at her places of employments where she received numerous awards for being an outstanding employee.

Bessie married the late William Zant at the tender age of sixteen in 1957.  Although they did not have children, she was like a mother and grandmother to many children in her family as well as the children of her friends.  She was friendly and made numerous friends throughout her life.  She will be sincerely missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn:  her sisters, Florence Morris, Barbara Williams and Marjorie Williams; brothers, Randolph Williams, Matthew Williams and her brother from another mother, Earl Generette; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Williams; best friend, Margaret Dean, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
