We pause to pay tribute and celebrate the beloved life of Bertha

Mahomes. With hearts of grief and mounds of sadness, we mourn

her passing, but we celebrate her life and shall carry her legacy and

many memories.

Bertha Mae Mahomes, the daughter of the late Arthur and Estell

Byers, was born on July 31, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed

this life on Monday, April 3, 2017.

Bertha Received her education in the Baltimore City Schools. She

met and married Howard Mahomes who was known as Pee Wee. He

preceded her in death in August 1996. Bertha was the love of his life

and he called her “Sweetie Mae”. Ten children were born from this

union, and one son, Larry Mahomes preceded her in death. Bertha

was a stay at home mother who raised ten children and later she

became a Day Care Mother for many family and friends.

Bertha was a beautiful woman who loved to dress according to her

style and oh, what style! When she stepped out she was elegant,

glamorous and ready to dance, which she continued until the age

of 85 years old. Her passion for preparing meals for her family

household and through the neighborhood. Her specialty was fried

chicken and biscuits. Let’s not forget her popular cod-sh cakes and

potato salad platters. All the kids and adults loved her famous

frozen cups. Especially the variety of avors to choose from. She was

admired by all for her straight forwardness, her strong and beautiful

personality and willingness to help everyone when needed. She

was always feeding people in the community.

Bertha relationship with God was of private faith and a private

relationship, knowing and believing he was her Lord and Savior.

She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Diana, Elizabeth

(Cleve), Darlene (Brown) and Betty Ann -ve sons, Howard, Jr., Allen

(Chestine), Jerome, Tyrone and Costello; one devoted sister,

Lorraine; twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and

sixteen great great grandchildren, three preceded her in death,(Allen, Derrick and Devin); one

devoted neighbor, Vonda and a host of nieces, nephews and

friends.
