Bertha Mae Buckson-Bell was the second oldest
of nine children born to the late Delores and James Buckson on January 15, 1948 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She gently closed her eyes for eternal rest on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Bertha Mae, or "Bert", as she was affectionately called, was educated through the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1966 and
attended Baltimore City Community College.
Upon graduation, Bertha accepted a position at the Social Security Administration and worked as a Data Transcriber and Claims Examiner. She later held positions at the University of Maryland Hospital and Alex Brown until her retirement.

Bertha met and fell in love with Herman C. Bell, Sr. and the two were wed in July 1997.
In 1958, Bertha was baptized at Timothy Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Mayo. She later joined Huber Memorial Church in 2001. Bertha was a remarkable person with a strong love for people. Although she never had biological children, she was a mother to many, both young and old. Through her warm heart and
compassionate spirit, Bertha gained numerous friends that loved and adored her. She was a genuine individual that devoted her life to helping others in whatever capacity she was needed. Whether it was lending an ear to listen, giving sound advice, being a nurturer, visiting and helping to take care of the sick.

Bertha was passionate about taking care of her mother and became her daily caregiver, after retirement. She never put anything before making sure 'Mama' was taken care of,including attending doctors appointments, cooking for her and just being her company during the day.
