Bernard Lee Stokes, the son of the late Curtis and Alice Stokes was
born on, August 10, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland the Lord decided to free
Bernard and granted him his wings on Sunday February 19, 2017.
Bernard was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System
(Dunbar High School). As a child He attended Baptist Church. Bernard gave
his life to Christ at Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev.
Marshal F. Prentice. Bernard worked at Sandtown Winchester and Overall,
Inc. Bernard was known as SHARKEY he earned that name by being one of
the greatest Pool Sharks in East Baltimore. In life’s journey he was also
known as the Governor to numerous family and friends. Sharkey had a great
sense of humor and made friends wherever he went, he was very straight
forward direct with a very strong personality and a heart of compassion
towards the people and his community. Bernard will be sincerely missed by
all.
Bernard met his wife Eunice, at an early age and he never stopped being the
love of her life they were together over 48 years. Bernard was affectionately
known as Pooh by his wife and that name became Platinum in the household.
Bernard and Eunice loved playing Badminton and Volleyball. From this union
they were blessed with two daughters Natasha and Betoya. He was a loving
and devoted father. He loved his entire family, he took great pride in being a
father, grandfather and great grandfather.
As a child growing up he was a well-rounded sportsman and he enjoyed
playing Basketball and he was the MVP of the Cleveland Indians Farm
System Baseball team, it was very difficult to strike him out. Bernard was
also an advocate lover of football.
In his leisure time he enjoyed spending family time at family gatherings he
had a special place in his heart for his mother and father and his
mother in-law and father in law. During the holidays Bernard was a blessing
to his family members always remembering birthdays and holidays, blessing
them with a fresh crisp $100 bill. He loved to eat good homemade food that
his loving wife, mother and mother in law prepared. He was a man of class
and distinguish. He loved his hats, suits and jewelry and could wear it well.
Where ever you saw Bernard he was very stylish and had a love for
cadillacs.
Bernard is preceded in death by his mother and father, Curtis and Alice
Stokes, mother in-law Alice Matilda Jordan, one brother Clyde, one son
Demetrius Kelly, one grandson Darius Kelly and one sister in-law Irene
Jordan, three brother in-laws Charles, Hovack and Tony Jordan.
He leaves to mourn his wife Eunice Stokes; sons Eric, Stephen (Deirdre) and
Cedric; daughters, Natasha and Betoya (Dwayne); 7 grandchildren and 12
great grand children; three brothers, Curtis, Andre and Reginald; one sister,
Deborah, three sister in-laws Madelyn, Florence and Florine; one
brother in-law Ricardo Jordan; 3 special friends Bubby, Block and Roger a
host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews: and a host
of sorrowful friends.
