Listen to Obituary

On Thursday, September 22, 2016 our heavenly Father sent an angel and took our beloved AVON DELORES HUDSON, also known as Dee-Dee, to her heavenly home after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 25, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Jessie M. (Fairfax) Watts and Nathaniel Hudson, who preceded her in death.

She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System and later graduated from Venable High School. She then met the love of her life Haywood McGowan; he was the love of her life for thirty-nine years. They both fought her battle of sickness.

Avon was employed in her early years at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Housekeeping Department, Port Truck Plaza in Dundalk, MD and later became employed at Walter P. Carter Center, where she worked until her health began to fail.

She accepted Christ at an early age. "Dee-Dee" as she was affectionately known, loved interacting with her children, grandchildren and numerous friends. She also had a great love for music, and her favorite television shows were the daytime stories and the Orioles games with a cup of coffee.

Avon leaves loving memories to cherish with: two children, Ulysses Thompson Jr. and Daneka Thompson; the love of her life, Mr. Haywood McGowan; six grandchildren, John M. Holland III, Anae J. Colter, Dashawn J. Wyatt, Donyae R. Wyatt, Ayonna E. Davis and Aaliyah A. Davis; two great-grandchildren, Jazmiara K. Holland and Harlem Holland; four loving sisters, Cassandra Gross (Gene) Avent, Delarese Watts (Roland) Conway, Kim Watts (Alonzo) Moore and Joyce Hudson; one brother, Ellsworth Watts Jr.; devoted niece, Chawanda Tisdale; devoted nephew Sampson Ashby Jr.; special friend, Ella Couplin; last but not least, four children she treated as her own, Shadae McCowan, Aaron E. Davis, Courtney Campbell and Arnold Norman; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. One brother, David White preceded her in death.
