Listen to Obituary

Lord, you have put a new song in his mouth even praise unto his God. We have accepted you Lord, calling your beloved son, Antoine Gregg home on March 6, 2025. What we see as an unexpected departure from this earthly life was just your way of saying, “Antoine, your race has been won, your course here on earth has been done and now it’s time to take your crown.”

Antoine, passionately known by his family as “Chuggy” was born on December 7, 1958 to the parents of Willie Lewis and Maretha Taylor in Washington, D.C.

He was formally educated in the Washington, D.C. public school system and was well-known as an All-American athlete during his elementary and middle school years.

He spent most of his adult years in Washington, D.C. until he moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1994.

For many years he worked at the Johns Hopkins University Press, and in 2003, he matriculated to the Howard County School System as a Groundsman to follow his passion as a landscaper until he retired in 2021. He had a passionate entrepreneurial spirit and worked hard to grow his business, A & L Lawn Care. He started his business with one lawnmower and two customers: Pastor Prideaux and his ex-father-in-law and friend, Mr. William Howard. Before his retirement, his business had grown to over 30 dedicated customers.

In 1994, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became an active member of Blessed Trinity Church of Deliverance in Pikesville, Maryland, under the tutelage of the late Pastor Dr. Ruby A. Prideaux. He was grateful for his new life in Christ and was willing to do whatever his hands found to do. In 1998, he was installed as a minister of the gospel and became an intricate part of Blessed Trinity. He spent many years as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, Prison Ministry Advocate, founder and establishmentarian of the Rainbow of Hope Substance Abuse Ministry (a program for those battling addiction), member of both the Men’s Ministry and Choir, but most of all, as a preacher, he loved sharing God’s holy Word. He was passionate about his love for Jesus and it was often demonstrated through his untiring praise to God, so much so, he was known by the members of Blessed Trinity as “Shouting John”. Embodying the gift of exhortation, Antoine was an encourager to many both inside and outside the church.

Never forgetting the lifestyle he came out of, Antoine was always willing to reach back and build up those who were experiencing what he had overcome. He was the epitome of I Timothy 4:12 which states, “be thou an example of the believer in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith.” If Antoine was in a church service you knew it because he was on his feet dancing and praising God no matter the occasion.

In 2013, Antoine joined Rock City Church, under the leadership of Bishop Bart Pierce, where he was an active member of the church. He was involved in the Rock City Block Party Program where he was often called to share his testimony of God’s transformative power. He was a Prison Ministry Advocate and member of the Men’s Ministry for many years before returning to the Washington, D.C. area.

Antoine was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldred Garnett and Tony Gregg; and two aunts, Mable and Maxine.

Antoine leaves behind to honor his memory his five lovely children: NyKeesha Gregg, Stevon Antoine Gregg, Thais Nicole Newton and his son-in-law, Jelani Akim Newton, and Kaitlyn Ashlee and Kierston Amber Gregg; three grandchildren whom he adored and enjoyed spending time with, Nya Elizabeth, Amaris Noelle and Mason Omari Newton; his father and mother, Willie Lewis and Maretha Taylor; two brothers, Redis Gregg and Keidth Taylor; one sister, Karen (Millie) Gregg; seven uncles: Andrew, Cephas, Leon, Vernon, William, Norris and Keidth White; one aunt, Rosanna York, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
