The dash on the front of the obituary that separates the day I was born and the date of my death. The dash represents my living.
Annie Ruth was born in Wilson North Carolina the child of Mamie lee Melvin and Lester Eatman and later adopted by Rebecca Louise Melvin and Clyde Melvin Sr and raised in Baltimore, MD. She had ten siblings: Ronnie, Tony, Anthony, Jerome, Clyde Jr, Abdul, Mary, Barbara-Jean, Patricia and
Evonne.
Annie received her high school education at Patterson High School. She later worked several years at Seton Manor downtown. Annie mothered three children Johnny Brown Jr, Chanel Joyner and Roney Kennedy; five grandchildren: Tasheria, Terrez, De'Asia, Shyheim and Diara; great-grand
child Shyheim Jr. She also leaves her husband and lifetime partner Alphonso Baker, a host of nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
Annie had many accomplishments throughout her life, but she will be remembered for her love of God, her selfless dedication to family/friends and her overflowing reservoirs of wisdom and understanding. She loved to laugh and do
crossword puzzles.
If the measure of a successful life is assessed by love, longevity, and legacy that we can proudly proclaim that Annie Ruth Melvin-Baker lived a beautiful, strong and bountiful life. God we thank you for her endurance and sadly but proudly return this gift to you.
