Annie Bean born July 5, 1949, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026 at the age 76.
Annie was truly a force of nature—loving, straightforward, and unapologetically herself. She lived life boldly and fully, with a rare balance of warmth, grit, and humor that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Annie had many layers to her personality. She would shake a tail-feather with the drop of any beat, especially Patti Labelle. Annie will always be adored, and honored as a major pillar in our family tree. She will be fondly remembered for her dancing “two-step” in all songs, her favorite song was “You Are My Friend” by Patti Labelle. She could party with the best of them, cook warm and comforting meals for her family, thrift and still rise for the “Greater BS” (GBMC). Always on her best behavior. Another of her hobbies was traveling to New York to adorn herself with purses, watches, fragrances and fabrics for sewing . She could party with the best of them, cook a warm and comforting meal for her family, share her strong and thoughtful opinions on just about any topic her heart desired, and still rise early the next morning to work a full shift at the hospital. She had an undeniable love for life and a deep passion for providing quality healthcare.
Annie attended Baltimore City Public Schools, where she earned her high school diploma. She went on to achieve a higher level of education which laid the foundation for a long and dedicated Nursing career. Annie devoted fifty years to GBMC Healthcare System, where she served in several roles, including NICU Nurse and Operation Room (OR) Surgical Technician. Her commitment, skill and compassion touched countless patients and colleagues over the decades.
Above all, Annie built a full and enriching life centered around her family. She raised her two daughters and two nephews with love, strength, and resilience, creating a legacy that continues through generations.
Annie outlived her parents Dorothy Hill and Earl Bean and three siblings: Gloria Martin, Dorothy Bean and Ervin Bean; in addition to her devoted companion of thirty-five years, Joseph Lewis.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jackie and Kevin Gilliam (son-in-law) and Katrina and Donald Brandon (son-in-law); two devoted nephews who she raised after her sister’s passing, Shawn Waller and Antoine Strokes; five granddaughters, Jazzmin, Janei, Joy, Unique and Alayah; six great-grandchildren, Jaleil 13, Ashton, Jaxson, K’Lynn, A’Niya, Teyana and one expected in April and a host of loving family and friends.
She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and forever cherished.
