Alvin G. Blake Sr.

ALVIN G. BLAKE, son of the late Lucille Blake and G. Alvin Bracey, born October 27, 1945, departed this life Wednesday, July 8 2021.

Alvin was raised in Baltimore, on the Fells Point section of town, actually called the Point. He attended Dunbar High School and begin working, as he was hired by many of the Jewish business owners located not far from where he lived. Alvin spent most of his adult life working as an upholsterer with the former Herman and Sons Upholstery Company.

Alvin was formerly married to Barbara Williams and from that union was born one son, Alvin Charles, along with having bonus children as a part of their then, family unit. Alvin never believed in calling his bonus children, step, and neither they call him step, but dad.

Later in life, Alvin accepted the Lord as his savior and worked many years untiringly in the Har Sinai Church on Broadway. He was ordained as a deacon and served in the position until he was unable due to declining health. He was the oldest deacon of the church. It is noted that Alvin was a workaholic. He worked in the community, in many of the retail businesses, as well as in the neighborhood where he lived. It was often joked that, when Alvin could no longer work, it wouldn't be long before his demise. Ironically, it happened just as it was imagined. Alvin could no longer keep up his daily working regiment and ultimately succumbed to failing health. He peacefully fell asleep and now at home with the Lord.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sheila and his brother, Cecil. He leaves to cherish his memory one natural son, Alvin; two bonus sons, Samuel and Kenneth; three bonus daughters, Myrtle, Cynthia and Yvonne; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew, Steven Blake, cousins, a church family and a host of co-workers and friends.
