Addie Lelia Johnson was born on December 13, 1934, to her parents, the late Laura Williams and Wilbert Cook in Rosedale, Maryland. On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home after a brief illness.
At an early age, Addie acknowledged the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. During her spiritual journey as a child, she attended First Apostolic Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Later in her life, she joined Mount Hattin Missionary Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Her spiritual journey was the gateway for her understanding of the importance of family and community outreach. She was formally educated by the Baltimore County Public School System. She was well prepared with the academic knowledge that was necessary for her successful entrepreneurship later in life.
On November 15, 1950, Addie married Rudolph Johnson Sr. and out of this union five children were born. Together, they nurtured and raised nine children, one niece and two grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Addie started her formal working experiences at a Bus Company. She then became an owner and operator of Johnson's Confectionary Store along with her husband Rudolph. The store provided food sources and employment opportunities for members of the community. Addie dedicated countless hours to the store while also raising her family. She was well received and respected by the community by both the young and the old. Her employment history also included Fort Meade Commissary and Harford Garden's Convalescent Home. She volunteered her services at the neighborhood schools where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended. After Addie's retirement, she continued to provide for others by extending her time and home to watch children so their parents could go to work. Addie provided a warm and welcoming home to all that visited.
Great conversation and plenty of tasty meals and Addie's wonderful smile were always offered. Her home was often referred to as "The House".
