Willie Hatcher Obituary

WILLIE B. HATCHER was born on August 12, 1933 in Farmsville, Va to Ben and Jennie Hatcher who proceeded him in death. He received his education from the Prince Edward County School System. At the age of 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served proudly in the Korean War. During his service, he was captured and became a prisoner of war for 19 months. He was then released to the United Nations Control, where he would be honorably discharged. For his service and his ability to stand strong in the face of adversity, he was awarded the Purple Heart in 1953.

In 1956, Willie married Dorothy Hatcher who proceeded him in death. In 1958, Willie chose Baltimore as his home. During the 1970's Willie met Rosetta Boyd and began to build a life who also proceeded him in death. He obtained a career through Baltimore City in which he retired from in 2001. During his retirement Willie became a devoted grandfather, helping his granddaughter Diara Sheppard raise Rayshawn Cole, Arieon and Aeron Mckoy. He also had a very close relationship with his granddaughter Shamone Trent and her sons Ahmad and Daveon whom he adored.

Willie was the "block hack" for the Normal Avenue ladies. Wherever they needed to go, he would take them! He was a man of few words who stayed pretty much to himself. But on the other hand, he was always willing to help those who needed it. He loved to stay in his room watching old Westerns and CNN News Channel.

Willie leaves to mourn: brother, John Hatcher; he had ten other siblings who preceded him in death, Edward, Curtis, Sea, Ben, Charlie, Hattie, Mamie, Josephine and Jeanette Hatcher; brother-in-law, John Lockett; sisters-in-law, Arlene Hudson and Christine Hatcher; ten children, Loretta Robinson, Stephney, Lynwood, Shirley and Elaine Hatcher, Paula Walker, Ernest, Ramona, Walter and Arlene Boyd, proceeded him in death, son-in-laws, Herman Trent and Dwayne Overby; daughters-in-law, Elverleane and Mattie; twenty-two grandchildren, Saran, Shamone, Linnea, Jakiesha, Jonathan, Kandra, Lattrice, Carla, Sophia, Diara, Demetrius, Taurean, Damascus, Shawn, Marco, Sheronda, Alease, Shamirra, Chanel, Shantell, Shana and Shaniya; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren, a special nephew, Edward Hatcher Jr. and a host of loved ones, family and friends.
