Viola Kearson

March 14, 1918 ~ January 8, 2018 (age 99) 99 Years Old

On March 14, 1918, a legend was born in Bucksport, South Carolina from the late Gabe and Fannie Marshall. Out of that union fourteen children were born. The legend was the second oldest. At the midnight hour, angels came and carried the legend away on January 8, 2018. 

Viola early education was done in Bucksport, South Carolina after she completed her education, she moved to Mullins, South Carolina with her Aunt Lizzy. After moving to Mullins, South Carolina she met Judge H. Kearson, December 24, 1936 her and Judge united. Out of that union nine children were born, Catherine, Geraldine, George Edward, Delores (Cubby), Robert Lee, Viola (Susie), Julius (Raymond), Leon and Barbara Ann. 

During her early years she worked on the family farm in Bucksport, South Carolina. Viola would always say "That was some hard work". After working on the farm, she moved to Mullins, South Carolina to work as a housekeeper. While in Mullins, she learned about fashion and became a lover of clothes and shoes.

After moving to Baltimore, she worked at several jobs when segregation was at it's high. In her later years, she worked as a housekeeper and a nursing assistant.

Viola loved life and people. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, shopping, cooking pastries and decorating. Viola always welcomed family and friends in her home. During her life time she received numerous citations and awards.

After the death of her husband she gained a long time friend, Edward Watson. They remained together until his death.

Viola joined Waters A.M.E. in the early 50's under the leadership of Reverend Nash. She remained a faithful member until her death. During her membership, she was a choir member and served in several boards and organizations.

Viola was preceded in death by two children, George Edward and Robert Lee.

To carry on her legacy, she leaves to mourn, seven children, fifty-four grandchildren, forty two great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, two sisters, Eleretha and Albertha (Willie); one brother, Rufus; one son-in-law, Theodore a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her neighbors of more than 60 years on Ellwood Ave. her Waters AME family and numerous friends.
