Sonia E Johnson

Sonia Elmira Johnson was born December 9, 1957 to Addie Johnson and the late Rudolph Charles Johnson, Sr. At an early age, Sonia accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.  She attended Mt. Hattin Missionary Baptist Church.  The Lord called her home on February 15, 2018.

Sonia received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools and continued her education as a Computer Science major at the Data Processing Institute.  She shared her knowledge in technology while she was employed by Mercantile Bank as a Programming Analyst.  After several years with Mercantile Bank, Sonia was later employed by USF&G.  Sonia’s journey with technology ended as she desired to pursue her passion of the culinary arts. She enrolled in the Baltimore Culinary School to learn the art of being a chef.  Sonia was employed by Marriott Hotel Group where she perfected her skills. Later, she shared her expertise as a chef at Pickersgill Retirement Center. In the latter part of her career, Sonia managed the breakfast and lunch program for Baltimore County Public Schools. Sonia also helped spear head and coordinate the Baltimore County Summer Feed program.

Sonia was also an entrepreneur when it came to her passion for cooking and serving others. Sonia had a genuine LOVE for her family and friends and showered them with her love by way of delicious food. There was not a celebration too large or small for her professional services. It went without saying, if Sonia cooked; the food was a must have.  Generations of her nieces, nephews and friends have fond memories of impromptu cooking lessons and telephone advice on how to prepare a dish.  She not only taught you how to cook a tasty meal, but how to create fabulous, edible and intricate culinary arrangements.

Sonia never bared a child but, had a special motherly connection and love for her niece Brittany. When the opportunity presented itself, she honorably stepped up and helped to raise her, pouring out endless, unconditional love for Brittany that was of a mother. 

Sonia was preceded in death by her father, Rudolph Charles Johnson, Sr., her brothers, Rudolph Charles Johnson, Jr. and Carlis Daugherty; her sister, Tina Johnson, her nephew, Clarence Hamlet, Jr. and lifelong devoted partner, Sherman Connor.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her mother, Addie Johnson; her niece, Brittany Williams; her brother, Reginald Johnson (Darlene Johnson); her three sisters, Cheryl Huff, Rudolphia  Shelton (Eric Shelton) , and Paula Johnson; a special cousin, LaVerne Curley; devoted friend, Lillie Pearl Huff;  and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
