ROSIE LEE CAMPBELL, was born on May 31, 1942, to the late Elsie Thomas Campbell and Raymond Campbell, Jr., in Lancaster County, Virginia. Rosie received her education in the Lancaster County School System and later received her high school diploma from Carver Vocational-Technical High School in Baltimore, MD.
She joined New St. John Baptist Church in Kilmarnock, VA at an early age. Rosie had many jobs during her youth and young adult years, but the one that suited her best was working in the dietary department in the nursing home. Years later, Rosie decided to advance her career and received her Associates Degree from Baltimore City Community College, and became a Certified Dietary Manager. She was a proud member of the Dietary Managers Association for many years.
She worked at Overlea Gardens Nursing Home for over 20 years, before retiring from the field. Rosie was strong willed, opinionated, loving, encouraging, and knew how to speak up for herself and others. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining everyone with her cookouts and her traditional Christmas Eve Family Seafood Dinner featuring her crab cakes. She always had a way of making everyone feel at home. On October 6, 2019 at Howard County General Hospital, after battling a lengthy illness, Rosie peacefully transitioned to God.
She joins her life partner Albert Purcell, who preceded her in death in 2010. Albert has his “Big Rose” back. To live on in her memories, her daughter Veronica Purcell Crosby; brother, Morris Campbell (Diane Campbell); Aunt Elois Campbell; Uncle Vernon Redmond; Like a son Elbert Bernard Purcell; Like a grandson Jawan Crosby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives, and friends.
