Michael A. Stewart, Sr. was born April 18, 1953 to the late Isiah Stewart and Dolores V. Stewart, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life after a lengthy illness on December 3, 2017.  Despite the severity of his diagnosis Michael fought cancer with courage, faith, and determination until he took his last breath. Michael was affectionally known as “Nine Lives”.

He received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Michael accepted Christ and was baptized at My Father’s House and Church Ministries and was very supportive of the ministry.

Michael married Romaine Johnson and out of this union Tameia Stewart was born.  He later married Esther Mae Jones and from their union three sons were born, Michael Stewart, Jr. (who preceded him in death), Martise Stewart and Martin Stewart.

He was employed at Bethleham Steel where he enjoyed a career as a welder.  Michael also held management, and landscaping positions; was self-taught in-home improvement and renovations. He was an expert electrician, plumber, carpenter, and painter – in other words a “Five Star Handyman”.

Michael was the life of the party, a prankster, and was known for his famous Stewart Strut dance.  Some of our fondest memories were at Christmas when we received his unique assortment of gifts ranging from Snoopy lamps, old people sitting on benches figurines, and scented socks. Michael was fond of life and lived it to the fullest, there was never a dull moment in his presence. No matter what, you could get the true story from Michael – he spoke the truth and told it like it was!!

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Tameia Stewart (Damon), Martise Stewart, Martin Stewart (Breanne); one brother, Daniel I. Stewart (Linda); six sisters, Theresa G. Coleman, Bernadette Gilliam (Fred), Denise R. McRae (Anthony), Darlene S. Stewart, Karen Higgins (preceded him in death), Janice A. Flowers (Chris), and Donna M. Drummond; three aunts, Viola, Bernice and Rosetta; 10 grandchildren, Isiah, Darius, Akilah, Michael, Ryan, Jacob, Makayla, Makayla Marie, Zion, and Aaliyah; 14 nephews, Tavon, Kyle, Bakari, Jermaine, Corey, Kenny, Karis, Brian (preceded him in death), Keith, Barry, Brandon, Lance, Caleb and Gabriel; 13 Nieces, Tannyka, Janelle, Danette (preceded him in death), Denisha, Darcell, Kia, Dasha, Denita, Jennifer, Shanay, Shanette, Shanise, and Asia; a host of great nieces,  great nephews, cousins, and friends; extended family Tamyra, Donte and Jean; special lifelong friends Gloria, Richard, and Hilda.
